Create an organization

Set up a gallery or team workspace on ArtSpace so you can publish exhibitions under a shared name and collaborate with members.

Overview

An organization is a shared workspace for galleries and teams. It has its own name, profile page, avatar, and Dashboard, and it can own Spaces that several people publish and maintain together. When you create an organization, you automatically become its Owner.

You can belong to as many organizations as you like, and you keep your personal account at the same time. Switching to work "as" an organization simply means choosing it as the owner when you create a Space (see Organization spaces and dashboard).

When to use an organization

  • You run a gallery or studio and want exhibitions to appear under the gallery's name, not your personal profile.
  • You work as a team and want several people to be able to create, edit, and manage the same Spaces.
  • You want a shared Dashboard with combined views, likes, and comments across all of the team's Spaces.
  • You plan to request a Gallery verification badge for the organization (see Artist and gallery verification).

If you just want to publish your own work under your own name, you don't need an organization. A personal account is enough — see Create a Space.

Before you begin

  • You must be signed in and have finished onboarding (a unique @username and display name). See Set up your account.
  • Decide on a URL name (the organization's web address, which you can change later) and a display name (the friendly name shown to people).
  • Optionally, prepare a square logo or avatar image.

Create the organization

  1. 1Open your settings and go to the Organizations section (at /[username]/settings/organizations), then choose New / Create Organization. This opens the create form.
  2. 2Upload a logo / avatar for the organization (optional but recommended — it appears on the profile and on every org-owned Space).
  3. 3Enter a Display Name. This is the name shown to visitors and can be edited any time later. It must be 2–50 characters.
  4. 4Enter a URL Name. This becomes the organization's web address (/organizations/your-url-name) and can be changed later in settings. Use 3–39 characters — letters, numbers, hyphens, and underscores — starting and ending with a letter or number. A few reserved words (like admin or settings) aren't allowed. ArtSpace checks availability as you type and shows a checkmark when the name is free.
  5. 5Optionally write an Introduction (up to 500 characters) describing the gallery or team.
  6. 6Choose the visibility: Public lets anyone see the organization and its members; Private shows it only to members. You can change this later.
  7. 7Select Create Organization. You'll be taken to the new organization's profile page, where you are listed as the Owner.

You can change the URL name later in the organization's settings, but it's the organization's web address — changing it breaks any existing links that point to the old address, so pick something durable. The display name can always be edited freely.
